How to fix GPU acceleration problem in adobe premiere pro

How to fix GPU acceleration problem in adobe premiere pro

I will give solutions for both dedicated and integrated graphic card users.
If you are a NVIDIA or AMD graphics card user then follow the first 7 steps.
Intel Graphics users should scroll down to the end of the first 7 steps from there you will start your troubleshooting.

NVIDiA and AMD users:

Step 1: Check if your computer meets the minimum system requirements for GPU acceleration

Before setting up GPU acceleration, it's important to ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements. Adobe Premiere Pro requires a compatible GPU and a minimum of 2GB VRAM for GPU acceleration. You can check the system requirements on Adobe's website.

Step 2: Check if your GPU is compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro

Once you've confirmed that your computer meets the minimum system requirements, it's important to check if your GPU is compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe maintains a list of supported GPUs on their website.

Step 3: Enable GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro

To enable GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro, go to File > Project Settings > General. Under the "Video Rendering and Playback" section, select "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)" or "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)" depending on your GPU. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Step 4: Update your GPU drivers

Outdated GPU drivers can cause GPU acceleration to not work properly or at all. Make sure to update your GPU drivers to the latest version to ensure compatibility with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Step 5: Check if your GPU is being utilized

After enabling GPU acceleration, it's important to check if your GPU is being utilized by Premiere Pro. To check this, open the "Task Manager" on Windows or "Activity Monitor" on Mac, and navigate to the "Performance" tab. Look for your GPU in the list of processes and check if it is being utilized.

Step 6: Troubleshoot GPU acceleration not working

If GPU acceleration is not working properly, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart Premiere Pro and your computer

  • Disable "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration" and then enable it again in Premiere Pro settings

  • Reset Premiere Pro preferences to default

  • Clear the media cache and restart Premiere Pro

  • Disable any third-party plugins that may be causing conflicts

Step 7: Contact Adobe support

If you've tried all the troubleshooting steps and GPU acceleration is still not working, contact Adobe Support for further assistance.

In conclusion, setting up GPU acceleration in Adobe Premiere Pro can greatly improve video editing performance and speed up workflow. By following these 7 steps, you can ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements, your GPU is compatible, and GPU acceleration is enabled and working properly.

Intel graphics users

If you are having trouble with Adobe Premiere Pro versions not recognizing Intel graphics for GPU acceleration, follow these five steps:

Step 1: Check Graphics Card Compatibility

First and foremost, make sure your Intel graphics card is compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro. Check the list of supported graphics cards on Adobe's website. If your graphics card is not on the list, it may not meet the minimum requirements for GPU acceleration.

Step 2: Update Graphics Card Driver

Make sure your graphics card driver is up to date. Go to the Intel website and download the latest driver for your graphics card. Once downloaded, install the driver and restart your computer.

Step 3: Enable GPU Acceleration in Premiere Pro

Open Adobe Premiere Pro and go to File > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback. Set the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) or Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Metal). If you don't see these options, it means that your graphics card is not recognized by Premiere Pro.

Step 4: Download and install driver booster on your PC.

Connect your pc to an internet connection > Open driver booster > Click on scan. From there the software will scan all outdated drivers on your pc even those that the device manager cannot detect.

Now,  scroll through the outdated drivers then download and update graphics and CPU drivers. This tool can detect new versions of your graphics processor when device manager is unable to detect them. If all drivers are up to date and still do not solve the problem then try the next step.

Step 5: Right-click on your desktop > Display settings > Graphics > Browse: go to the go to desktop and select adobe premiere icon or go to the installation directory and select it. Now Click on the app on the icon that you just selected and select “ high performance” then click save then go to desktop and run the program as administrator.

Step 6: Update Premiere Pro

Make sure that you have the latest version of Premiere Pro installed. Adobe frequently releases updates that include bug fixes and performance improvements.

Step 7: Check System Compatibility

Lastly, check that your computer meets all the system requirements for Premiere Pro. If your computer is not powerful enough to support GPU acceleration, it may not recognize your graphics card.

In conclusion, if you are experiencing issues with Adobe Premiere Pro not recognizing Intel graphics for GPU acceleration, follow these five steps. Check graphics card compatibility, update the graphics card driver, enable GPU acceleration in Premiere Pro, update Premiere Pro to the latest version, and check system compatibility. With these steps, you should be able to fix the issue and get back to editing your videos in no time.

GOOD LUCK!
